Methodology: How We Rank Developers

How the developer ranking is built. Criteria in order of weight; all checks are reproducible from public sources.

Last updated: November 2026. Figures and regulatory details reflect publicly reported information as of that date; verify current rules with the relevant registry or regulator before transacting.

1. Registry traceability (knockout)

Verifiable issuance and retirement records on Verra (VCS), Gold Standard or Plan Vivo. No registry record, no ranking.

2. Regulatory standing

Approval under Kenya's carbon-market rule book (August 2026) and presence in the national registry (launched February 2026). Registry actions — suspensions, reinstatements — are reported, not omitted.

3. Track record

Documented issuance history: Wildlife Works since 2011, BURN Manufacturing at national scale, Vi Agroforestry across decades.

4. Community benefit sharing

Written, community-accessible arrangements. Mikoko Pamoja's Plan Vivo governance is the small-project benchmark.

5. Measurement quality

Measured methodologies over estimates: metered electric-cooking (Gold Standard, first in Africa via UpEnergy, 2025), satellite/AI soil measurement (Boomitra).
